MAY 2 MORNING WEATHER BRIEFING

GOOD MONDAY MORNING!

A noisy night for some parts of the Valley as we had a pretty good round of rain and thunder in the wee hours. In fact there was a Severe Thunderstorm Warning out for extreme southern Columbiana County for a brief time.

314AM

There was hail with that storm but the hail ultimately stayed south of the East Liverpool area.

Rain totals over the last 24 hours:

The rain is gone this morning and the balance of today will be mostly cloudy and tranquil. Current weather map:

Temperatures cooled into the 40s overnight and today will be a cool day overall with highs near 60.

TUESDAY: BEST DAY OF THE WEEK!

It’s not going to be a great week but Tuesday will be pretty decent with some sunshine and highs in the lower 60s.

REST OF THE WEEK: EHHHHH

Starting Wednesday, we’ll have a period of cool and unsettled weather that will stick around for the rest of the week. A cold front will produce some showers on Wednesday, mainly in the afternoon:

Thursday will be damp and chilly with temperatures staying in the 50s. Some light rain and drizzle seems likely.

OMEGA BLOCK RETURNS

Remember that wonderful stretch of weather in mid-April, when we had sunshine and warm temperatures for a week straight? You may recall that the atmosphere was all “blocked up” across the US, a pattern called the “omega block” since the jet stream configuration looked like the Greek letter Omega.

Well that pattern is back but it is centered farther west this time. Instead of being in the “good” part of the block….we are in the “cool, damp” part. Thankfully the block will not persist for a week or more and we’ll start to break out of the pattern by the weekend.

6-10 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center has a decent likelihood of some warm temperatures in our region:
